“College courses will teach you the basics of journalism. When it comes down to the actual written work there is no better experience than that of an internship. Deadlines and format are mentioned in classes but when you actually have an editor waiting for an article it’s completely different.

If you’re lucky enough to have an internship where you aren’t just a gopher it is the best learning experience you can have. At Hispanicmpr.com Elena walks interns through every process, down to the smallest detail. Her patience and experience has helped me tremendously. She has taught me writing tactics that I have not learned in the classroom. The fact that this is a fully internet based internship makes everything so much more convenient. There are no set hours and ample time is given for articles to be done.” Melissa Gonzalez

Beginning in May 2008, Kmart stores are expected to carry Limon y Sal, a new apparel brand designed for Hispanics. The line is distinctive because it’s designed for young Latinos and the packaging, hang tags, labels, stickers and graphics are in Spanish. The Limon y Sal line includes Spanish one liner tees with graphic designs and seasonal garments.

Sample lines include: “Por eso es que estoy caliente” and “No vine por ustedes vine por ellas y la cerveza.” In addition to the graphic tees, there are screen-printed woven shirts and polo shirts, hoodies, pants and shorts.

“We have a large number of our stores that are centered in the Latino community and we have a strong bond with the Latino community,” said Mike Sablowski, vice president, Menswear, Kmart. “We haven’t offered them apparel. We really think there’s a need for that.”

Latina vocalist and guitarrist Florencia Bourdin and her music partner keyboardist Diana Dulanto, Alphafemes, like pop rock. Inspired by the likes of Gwen Stefani, Pink, and Guns N’ Roses they are about to see some of their dreams come true with the release of their first album, “First Sight,” by Record Label HardKandy Records Inc. Coincidentally it’s the New Jersey record label’s tenth album and its tenth year in business.

Live Alphafemes perform as a trio or a quartet. In the studio they are a duo. The album “First Sight” was produced by veteran independent producer Brother Noyze the Mad Musician (G.L.Hines).

The teenagers, Bourdin, a native of Uruguay, and Dulanto from Peru, met at a high school history class and hit it off. While Bourdin likes to sing, Dulanto’s love is song writing. They each grew up with music in their lives and developed the passion for music that eventually brought them together.
